What is the best part about Pinterest?
It is pretty! You don’t have to browse ugly links, you get to browse images to get to the links!
I’m in the child care or non-profit profession. Why do I care?
1. Child Care Providers (family child care providers, center teachers, parents, grandparents)
a. Find ideas and resources that you might want to use for child care
b. You don’t have to troll google to find it
c. Find certain organizations you trust and use it as an initial resources to find seasonal activities
d. Link to your website or your blog if you post the fun things you are doing with the children or what you are
cooking for them. Good for exposure and credibility.
2. Not-for-profits
a. Find others who also run not-for-profits and see what their resources might be, what they like to pin
b. Get the word out about you and your services. Exposure!
c. The more people that repin your article, blog post or website, the more opportunity you have to get the
word out about your services
d. Pin additional resources that you can’t put on your website or just to help your audience with this
information
What is Pinterest?
As Mashable describes it: “Pinterest is a digital pinboard for things you love.” I like to think of it as an easy to use and follow social bookmarking site. You get to share with people blog posts, articles or recipes you like. You also get to see what other people are pinning and then add those to your pinboard.
How is it different from other sites?
You pin the images to your pinboard, not links. Therefore, when you are browsing the site you get to see all sorts of pictures with quick descriptions instead of ugly links.
Pinterest is invite only right now
You can ask for an invitation from Pinterest or ask me and I will try to send you an invite. You would have to provide me with your email address.
For help
Signing up and more information about pinterest, here is their help page.
What do you think about Pinterest?
Do you have additional questions? Please post in the comments, section, would love to keep this conversation going.
How does it actually work, the basics?
After you sign in you see a ton of pins. A page that looks like this. Easy on the eyes, right?

You can pick a category you want to view

You can repin/like or comment on another user’s pin

When you repin it, you choose which “board” you want the pin to go to. Basically, a category you are interested in sharing about or just keeping track of things you like.

Find interesting people to follow, you can follow just one board you are interested in or all of them. This means that when they post a new pin, you see it when you log-in.

Happy Pinning!
